The Wit of a Wise Woman

Posted in Akaabir, Misc at 9:49 am by Nabeel Khan

A group of men once visited Rabi’ah Basriyah to test her to see if she would make an unguarded comment.  “All the virtues have been scattered upon the heads of men,” they said.  “The crown of prophethood has been placed on the heads of men.  The belt of nobility has been fastened around the waists of men.  No women has ever been a prophet.”

“All that is true,” she replied.  “But egotism, worshiping one’s self, and “I am your Lord, the Most High” have never sprung from a woman’s breast.  All these things have been the specialty of men.”

The Bowl of Beggars

Posted in 'Ibadah, Aadaab-Etiquettes and Manners, Ahwaal, Connection with Allah, Fikr, Love of Allah, Zikr at 7:14 am by Nabeel Khan

Allah Ta’alaa has stated in the Qur’an, “O mankind, all of you are beggars to Allah.”  Regarding this verse, I have heard from my Shaykh (DB) that Allah has given every beggar a bowl to beg from in the court of Allah.  That bowl is when we put our hands up to make dua’ to Allah, our hands form a little bowl.  In the west it is commonly known that beggars cannot be choosers, but this does not apply to the court of Allah.  Just look at the things we make dua’ for….We ask Allah for mercy, forgiveness, paradise, protection from hell, and most importantly His pleasure, yet we deserve not even a single one of these things.  Contemplate over how merciful our Allah is that it is stated in a hadith that Allah gets angry at the one who does not ask from Him.  Raise your small bowl in front of Allah, and surely He will grant you big and great things Insha Allah.

Types of People in Relationship to Guidance

Posted in Aadaab-Etiquettes and Manners, Ahwaal, Akaabir, Connection with Allah, Misc at 4:50 am by Nabeel Khan

Hadhrat Wala said:

Hadhrat Khwaaja Sahib Ajmery (RA) converted nine million people to Islam while there were those who did not accept Islam on the preaching of Allah’s beloved Messenger (S). The reason for this is that people are divided into five categories, those who are:

  1. Ghaafil – heedless; unmindful
  2. Saa’il – petitioners; seekers
  3. Maa’il – inclined; willing
  4. Jaahil – ignorant; unaware
  5. Mujadil – contentious; argumentative

The first four types of people derive benefit and are guided aright while the fifth do not derive guidance. Those who brought Imaan on the hands of Hadhrat Khwaaja Sahib (RA) belonged to the first four categories. The few who did not accept Imaan at the time of Allah’s beloved Messenger (S) belonged to the fifth group, the Mujadil who do not derive benefit. Shaytaan too, was Mujadil, was Mardood (accursed). The nature of a Mujadil is innate stubbornness.

Guidance to Those who do not have an Islahi Connection through Attending Majaalis

Hadhrat Wala said:

The following has been inspired in the heart today. Those who are not formally involved in self rectification, but who keep in contact with the Saaliheen, the pious, who attend their gatherings are advised to recite one Tasbeeh of Durood Shareef, one Tasbeeh of Kalima Tayyibah, and one Tasbeeh of ‘Allah, Allah’. If they are unable to act upon all three together, they should at least start off with at least one of them. Insha Allah, this will become the means of increase and advancement.

Elucidation by the compiler:

There was a great need for this advice to be given so that those who are not actively involved in formal self reformation can be put onto some form of Zikr and Fikr, some form of Allah’s remembrance and meditation. This was a constant concern which has been dealt with by this advice of Hadhrat Aqdas (DB) and which has opened the door to progress.

Regarding Rahmaan, Ask those who are Aware of Him!

Posted in Aadaab-Etiquettes and Manners, Ahwaal, Akaabir, Connection with Allah, Love of Allah at 11:05 am by Nabeel Khan

Allah Ta’ala instructs us, “Regarding Rahmaan ask those who are aware of Him.’

Majnu was defective in his recognition for he remained embroiled in the love of Layla because he unfortunately did not come into contact with one of the knowing or conscious servants of Allah. Had this been the case he would have been informed, “O immature person, who is it that made Layla, Layla?” Majnu’s short-sightedness did not allow him to reach the appropriate conclusion. Our Murshid-e-Paak, Hadhrat Thanwi (RA) rendered the translation of: “Ar-Rahman fas ala bi hi khabeera”, as: “Regarding the splendor of Rahman ask one of the knowing, one who has walked along his path.”

“Proud of my eyes am I, for upon your beauty have they gazed, sacrifice my feet for you do I, for along your path have they tread.”
