Signs of a Complete Shaikh

The way to recognize a complete shaikh is to ensure that the shaikh is steadfast upon the Shari’ah. He should be safe from bid’ah and shirk. He should not speak ignorantly. The effects of his company should be that the love of the dunya decreases and the love of Allah increases. If he is informed of a spiritual illness, he should listen attentively and devise a suitable remedy. Whatever remedy he prescribes, should benefit the seeker on every step. By following the shaikh and being obedient towards him, one’s condition should improve everyday.
