A Deep Connection for Islah

Every person needs to keep regular contact with their doctor or physician, like every month or two months as per the doctor’s advice.  The doctor sees the reports etc., writes out prescriptions, and then the patient uses the prescription based upon the doctor’s instructions.  The patient also refrains from whatever the doctors tells the patient is harmful.  These visits then continue till the end.  Similarly, the islahi ta’alluq is also a lifelong commitment.  Till the end of one’s life, a person must inform their Shaykh, their spiritual doctor, of their condition, and then implement the advice of the Shaykh.

After setting foot onto this path, a wrong want and desire might develop, which is to seek to know when one’s islah will be complete.  For physical ailments, when a person becomes healthy, that is the end of it.  Whereas for spiritual diseases, even if a person is cured of a particular disease, the person still forever remains in need of the Shaykh’s guidance.  For this reason, this link and connection is one that is till the end of one’s life.  In fact, Insha Allah, it will last and continue in the afterlife as well.

In any case, a spiritual doctor prescribes abundant remembrance of Allah, because the abundant zikr of Allah is that energy and spiritual force that can rid the heart of many spiritual illnesses.  The weakness that comes into one’s Iman is also removed by abundant zikr.  Also, the immoderation and diseases that come into a person’s heart due to the weakness in Iman are also removed automatically.  The heart along with its spiritual capabilities starts to become restored.  All of this is due to the company, barakah, and guidance of the Shaykh.  He is the one who constantly gives advice and encouragement to do this and not to do that.  In reality, it is Allah that gives us all the taufeeq.  Just as in the case of physical diseases, it is Allah that gives the actual cure, similarly, with spiritual diseases, it is still Allah alone that cures.  By the barakah and blessings of the name of Allah, when one is given the taufeeq to remember Allah, and one has connected one’s self to a Shaykh, then consider this the first step on the journey of islah and tarbiyat.

    Hazrat,
You have written, ” Also, the immoderation and diseases that come into a person’s heart due to the weakness in Iman are also removed automatically.”

Can you please tell us what you mean by immoderation?

Btw, in the second paragraph there is a typo. It is written, ” In fact, Inca Allah, it will last and continue in the afterlife as well.” I think you meant to write Insha Allah.

    Was salaam
