To Him We shall Return

It is with great grief that I write this post and inform the readers that Hazrat Mawlana Yunus Patel (RA) has passed away in Makkah today.  The grief I feel is for those of us who are left behind.  Hazrat Mawlana Yunus Patel (RA) was truly indeed a very great personality.  His presence on this earth is a source of mercy.

I also feel a sense of happiness that he passed away in Makkah.  Makkah is such a land where the mercy of Allah descends continuously. It is in this land that he passed on to the mercy of Allah.  A noble death.  Many may be at a loss of words to even make mention of this incident.  However, let us try to view it from a different angle.  He died in front of the Ka’bah whilst making dua’.  Those of us who know him closely, also know that he would often supplicate and pray that he die in the Haram.  Allah granting this particular prayer of his is a sign of his acceptance by Allah.

He was an ardent lover of Allah, and today we know that he was also the beloved of Allah as well.  Many of us have heard our Shaykh, Hazratwala (DB) mention numerous times, “I have two ministers in South Africa.  One is Mawlana Abdul Hamid (DB) and the other is Mawlana Yunus Patel (RA).”  He is a beloved of the people, he was held in high esteem by his shaykh (DB), and his death shows us that he has a high rank with Allah also.  He was a khalifah of the Grand Mufti of India, Hazrat Mufti Mahmood-ul-Hasan Gangohi (RA) and a senior Khalifah of Hazrat Mawlana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar (DB).  He was a fountain where two oceans of the love of Allah would meet to become one.

This post is not meant to be a biography.  I merely wanted to show my personal remorse and that loss I feel that I wish I was able to spend more time with him.  He has made his mark on this earth and has shown us in a sincere manner that he lived a righteous life.  So I hope that from now onwards, whenever we make mention of him, mercy will pour down upon us because indeed, mercy descends upon the mention of the pious.

To conclude, everyone is requested to pray for this great saint.  We pray that Allah forgive him, have mercy upon him, and rests him in paradise. We pray to Allah that Allah make his grave a garden of paradise.  We pray to Allah that He allow us to benefit from Hazrat Mawlan Yunus Patel (RA) even after his demise by means of his lectures, and literature.

Indeed, we only belong to Allah, and only to Him we shall return.

    Asalamu Alaykum:

One of the most amazing things about Maulana Yunus Patel Sahib (RA), that I can say I have ever experienced, was our beloved Hazratwala’s (DB) reaction to Maulana Yunus Sahib. Five years ago, when I was spending time with Hazratwala (DB) in Khanqah Imdadiya Ashrafiya, Maulana Yunus Sahib (RA) visited and his own Shaykh (DB) said this statement about him, “Maulana to bohot barey Sahib-e-Nisbat hai…”

He (DB) also said… “Bohot mitaa huwa hai…” i.e. he has totally annihilated his nafs…. Hearing these statements from Hazratwala (DB) amazed us because Hazratwala (DB) never used to do mubalaghah (exaggerate) or say things out of emotion…That individual regarding whom his own Shaykh makes such statements…. what can you say about such a personality?

I also wanted to say that the last memory that I have of Hazrat Maulana Yunus Sahib (DB) was last year in the haram shareef of Makkah Mukurramah. We sat with him in the mataaf and he was giving us advice… Subhanallah, there was a college student from England who just came into deen and Maulana (RA) was giving him targheeb (encouragement). The one thing I could say about him was that he was a fountainhead of hope and compassion in a world filled with despair and hate…Hundreds of youth addicted to drugs and pornography made taubah (repented) at Maulana’s (RA) hands. May Allah Ta`ala have mercy upon him and elevate his ranks in Paradise.

I think a biography of Maulana is absolutely essential, because his works, efforts and achievements are a source of inspiration for the entire Ummah.

His memories bring tears to my eyes…. such humbleness, kindness and compassion has now become a story that has passed in the annals of time. And we are all headed towards that direction. He is gone to the Mercy of Allah, but he is ever alive in our hearts and in the lives of those he has touched.

His end is reflective of his maqaam in Allah’s sight. It seems that he was just as beloved to His Creator as he was beloved to the creation, for his Mawla took him to His mercy in His own house… in that Sacred vicinity which He Himself has made Holy and sanctified… that Sacred maqaam which Allah has made mubarak and secured…. Hazrat Maulana Yunus Sahib (RA) was given such a demise that every ASHIQ (ardent lover) of Allah yearns and longs for. When I think of his memory, my stomach turns in pain and sadness, but when I think of this great gift of husn-e-khatima, my heart becomes cool and I admonish my nafs to follow in his footsteps of reviving the sunnah of selflessness and sacrifice.

May Allah have mercy upon us and the entire Ummah, for these are people who can never be replaced or filled-in for. May He enable us to follow in the footsteps of these pious elders. Aameen

May Allah SWT grant him a lofty status in jannah tul firdous, he used to pray to die in haram so frequently that whenever he went there I always in my heart had a fear that he will not return. MashaAllah he got what he wanted a noble death for a noble cause at the best place. May Allah swt allow us to benefit from his work, and also accept us and our generations for His deen.

  7. Abdul Hameed Says:

Ameen. May Allah (Azza wa jal) increase his status and reward and provide patience to those near and dear to Hazrat (rah).
