Scholar or Sufi?
Commenting on ‘ulama and sufis, Hazrat Thanwi (R) gave more importance to the former, in respect to the society. ‘Ulama are the frontiers for the society. For this reason, he liked the participation of ‘ulama in daily activities rather than being isolated from society. He thought that ‘ulama should live their lives for spreading knowledge, counseling people, giving proper advice, and serve the society through writings. This comment of Hazrat Thanwi (RA) was indeed an opinion just in terms of duty and responsibility. Certainly he possessed a great respect towards the sufis and tasawwuf.
