Introduction: An-Noor
This blog is dedicated to the proliferation of the teachings of the Thanwi silsilah through what we have acquired from our beloved Shaikh, Hazrat Maulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Sahib (RA) and Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Abdullah Phoolpuri Sahib (DB).
Hazrat Maulana Shah Hakeem Akhtar is the khalifah of Maulana Abrar-ul-Haq Sahib (RA), who was a khalifah of Hazrat Thanwi (RA). He was also khadim-e-khaas (Special Attendant) of one of the most senior and prominent khulafa of Hakim-ul-Ummah (RA), Maulana Shah Abdul Ghani Phoolpuri (RA). Hazrat Mufti Abdullah Phoolpuri (DB) is the grandson of Maulana Shah Abdul Ghani Phoolpuri (RA) and is also a khalifah of Maulana Abrar-ul-Haq Sahib (RA) also.
Hazrat Maulana Hakeem Akhtar Sahib (DB) is one of the few living Auliya of our time who is carrying on the legacy of Hakeem-ul-Ummah in a realistic way. He continues to implement, preserve, and sustain the anwaar and barakaat of the Hazrat Haji Imdaadullah Sahib’s (RA) and Hazrat Thanwi’s (RA) Khanqah, the Khanqah Imdaadiya Ashrafiya of Thanabhawan, located in the Khanqah Imdaadiya Ashrafiya of Karachi, even in this day and age.
Nawab Qaisar Sahib (DB) who is a living mureed of Hazrat Hakeem-ul-Ummah (RA) and khalifah of Dr. Abdul Hayy Sahib (RA) attests to this fact that whenever he comes to Hazrat Maulana Hakim Akhtar Sahib’s Khanqah in Karachi, he feels the spiritual atmosphere and aura of the Khanqah of Thanabhawan and is compelled to exclaim:
“Hay Karachi may bhi ek Thanabhawan.”
In Karachi there is a Thanwabhawan.”
The teachings of Hazrat Thanwi (RA) which are being revived and disseminated by our beloved Hazrat, Maulana Hakim Akhtar Sahib (DB), is aptly conveyed and elucidated by the following statements of Hazrat Maulana Sayyid Sulaiman Nadwi (rahmatullahi alaihi):
“By virtue of his (Hazrat Thanwi’s) ta’leem (teachings), tarbiyat (spiritual training), writings, lectures and preaching, true aqaa`id (beliefs) were disseminated; correct masaa`il (laws) were propagated; programs for Deeni Ta’leem were initiated; wrong customs and innovations were eradicated; the Sunnah of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was revived; the negligent were observant; the sleeping ones awoke; those who had forgotten, remembered; those who had broken away from Allah were connected to Him; hearts kindled with the love for Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), and hearts lit up with the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala. That branch of knowledge (Tasawwuf) which had become abandoned, once again became adorned with the treasures of Shibli, Junaid Baghdadi, Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilaani, Suhrwardi and Mujaddid Alf-e-Thaani (rahmatullahi Alaihim).”
This attribute and rank of revival (tajdeed) in this century has been bestowed by Allah Ta’ala specifically on the Mujaddid (reviver) of the time, viz., Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (RA). The noble endeavor of carrying on his legacy is now being fulfilled by Maulana Hakim Akhtar Sahib.
We pray to Allah Ta’ala that He perpetually showers His limitless blessings and mercy on all of our Akaabir, and their servants, who preserved and are continuing to preserve this Deen in their lives and through their teachings, and that Allah Ta’ala always grant them and us all His ranks of Proximity. Aameen!

Bismihi Ta’ala,
Dear Mohammed Israr Naqshbandi,
Asalaamu’alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,
First and foremost I would like to clarify that the book Sirat Al-Mastaqeem was compiled by Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) and not Hazrat Thanwi (ra).
Furthermore, the truth of the matter is that some people have a history of enmity towards both Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) and Hazrat Maulana Thanwi (ra). Because of this they misquote their sayings, take their statements out of context, and sometimes even outright fabricate lies against them. Hence it is imperative on everyone that they keep in mind that these people are unreliable sources in their criticism of these great lovers of Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam).
To even mention the book Sirat Al-Mustaqeem as a source of criticism against Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) shows these people’s lack of understanding. This is because the book is not even written by Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) but is merely a compilation of Hazrat Syed Ahmed Shaheed’s (ra) sayings. Moreover, he was not even alone in compiling this book but was assisted by Hazrat Maulana Abdul Hay Burhanwi (ra).
The reality is that Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) was an erudite scholar and an ardent lover of Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam). His elders gave him titles such as Taj Al-Mufassireen and Fakhr Al-Muhadditheen and did not consider him any less than themselves in the Islamic sciences. They further advised the people to consider him from amongst the rightly guided ‘Ulema and refer to him if they are faced with any difficult issues of Deen (Karwan-e-Iman wa ‘Azimat, p.11 – Hazrat Maulana Abdul Hassan Ali Nadwi (ra)). Even such ‘Ulema as Shaykh Khalid Kurdi Naqshbandi (ra), teacher of ‘Allamah ibn ‘Abidin Ash-Shaami (ra), greatly praised him in his writings (Shah Waliullah Aur Unki Siyasi Tahreek, p.125-127 – Hazrat Maulana ‘Ubaydullah Sindhi (ra)). But to top it all, he was even praised by Maulana Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi, a person who is well known to have had ikhtilaf with him. Upon hearing of the martyrdom of Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) he said, “We did not consider Ismail to be just a Maulvi but rather a Hakeem of the Ummat-e-Muhamadiyya (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam)…” (‘Allamah Dr. Khalid Mahmood (db)).
To conclude, the criticism used by some individuals against great ‘Ulema such as Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) is nothing more than propaganda. People such as Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed (ra) have exposed the lies and deviations of certain individuals and because these people have no true rebuttal they resort to a strategy of vilification. This is a tactic to keep their followers confused and helplessly following them. All those that are sincere seekers of the truth are advised to steer clear of such criticism and those that partake in it. Because verily when a person spits at the Sun it does not diminish in its radiance the least bit. The only thing that happens is that the spit falls back down upon their own face.

I am not sure if my post reached the comments but I was asking why the note “NOTE: Those who suffer from depression or have weak hearts should NOT do the above meditations.” I have Hypertension and I recited Laa ilaa ha ilallah. After reciting it a few times I feel a tendency to cry and tears come to my eyes. Should I refrain or is this a good sign and I can continue. Please advise soonest. Shukran

Bismihi Ta’ala,
Nazeem,
Asalaamu’alaikum,
Below is the prescribed way of doing dhikr of the kalimah لا اله الا الله .
“When you say لا اله then you meditate that all the beloved things of this temporary world and all the false idols (which have taken shape in the form of carnal desires in my heart) are being negated.
Meditate that a pillar of light from the ‘Arsh of Allah Ta’ala is entering your heart when you say الا الله.”
Based on your condition of hypertension, you should initially limit this dhikr to a small amount daily.
